Van Dijk backs Trent-Gomez at the World Cup

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has cheered Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez in the England squad for the World Cup.

“Reds” made a disappointing start to this season. Each of the players on the team are performing poorly as they enter the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

However, Van Dijk said teammates Trent and Gomez should be in Gareth Southgate’s squad for the final.

“I was surprised to see Trent Alexander-Arnold. Didn’t start for England,” Van Dijk told Gary Neville on The Overlap. “England is very lucky to have so many talented right-backs. Maybe everyone wants to grow up to be Gary Neville!”

“They have Reece James and Kyle Walker who are outstanding. But with his quality (Trent) then if you give him the confidence he needs. He has great value for the England team.”

“I think England has great potential. And there are incredible players like Phil Foden, Marcus Rashford, Jude Bellingham, even Joe Gomez, in my opinion. I will try to help him play better. He was outstanding against Manchester City [the team won 1-0 last month].”

‘Even Joe Gomez should go in my opinion – I try to help him play better. He was outstanding against Manchester City.

‘He can also play in a back-five, on the left, in the centre or on the right. But in general I think England has some fantastic players ufabet.’
